Information: Captain F.P.H. Synge M.C., Irish Guards, who was killed in action on July 29th, 1917, was the only son of Mr. Alexander Hamilton Synge, of Glanmore, Co. Wicklow. He was educated at Hurst Court, Hastings, and Winchester College. He joined the Irish Guards in July, 1915, and went to France in the following October, and the first time he went into the trenches he won the Military Cross for gallantry in leading a bombing attack, in which he was wounded, but returned to the front in January, 1917, and was shortly afterwards promoted captain.
