Information: Major James Auchinleck Dane, who was recently awarded the D.S.O. for conspicuous bravery under fire, got a commission in the Royal Garrison Artillery on the 24th December, 1902, from the Royal Military Academy. He subsequently transferred to the R.F.A., and was promoted lieutenant 15th July, 1906. Retired and joined Special Reserve 24th December, 1910. He was promoted captain 24th December, 1912; rejoined the Army early in August, 1914; landed in France on the 24th August, 1914, and was promoted major on the 16th November, 1915, and temporary lieutenant colonel from 24th April to 14th July, 1916. He was twice mentioned in despatches. Major Dane is the only son of the late Judge Dane, K.C., County Court Judge of the County Mayo, and formerly M.P. for North Fermanagh.
