Information: Captain Austin J. Elmitt, M.C., Welch Regiment, killed in action on November 24th, 1917, in France, age 20, was the eldest son of the late Lieut Col, Elnitt and Mrs. Elnitt, of Novara House, Bray, Co. Wicklow. He had recently received the M.C. for “coolness and utter contempt of danger beyond all praise”. He was educated at Aravon, Bray, and Trinity College, Dublin. The Military Cross won by the late Capt. Elmitt was presented to his mother by Brigadier-General Williams, C.B., who pinned the decoration on the breast of the schoolboy brother of the deceased officer at the presentation of military awards held at Portobello Barracks on January 14th.
