Information: CaptainCharles Beauclerk Despard M.C., Royal Irish Fusiliers, was killed in action on April 18th, 1918. He was the youngest son of the late Mr. W. F. Despard, Sheelah, Malone Park, Belfast, and Mrs. Despard, 6 Grosvenor Place, Rathmines, and had served through the Boer war, for which he was mentioned in despatches. He was in Canada when the present war broke out, but at once returned and received his commission in the Inniskilling Dragoons, being later transferred to the Royal Irish Fusiliers. He had served in France for 2 years and was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry in rescuing a wounded officer from No Man's Land.
