Information: Major Robert Gregory, Royal Flying Corps, who has been killed in action, was the only son of the late Sir William Gregory, K.C.B., and of Lady Gregory, of Coole Park, County Galway. Major Gregory joined the Army two years ago, and, having undergone a course of training, was posted to the Royal Flying Corps, in which his promotion was exceptionally rapid. For distinguished service he was awarded the Military Cross and the Cross of the French Legion of Honour. He was in command of a flying squadron at the Italian front, and was making observations of the enemy's position when he was killed. Prior to his joining the army, Major Gregory as a painter attracted considerable attention. He was a frequent exhibitor in connection with the New English Art Club, and examples of his work, including an excellent painting of the family seat in County Galway, are to be found in the Municipal Art Gallery, Dublin.
