Information: Captain Christopher Rogers, R.A.M.C., attached L.N.L. Regiment, fourth son of Mr. Harry Rogers, J.P., The Hill, Monaghan, has been awarded the Military Cross for distinguished bravery on the battlefield. “From the night 24th-25th October, 1917, to the night 26th-27th October, 1917 for gallantry and devotion to duty during this period, especially during an attack on the enemy's positions on 26th October, 1917. When acting as medical officer to his battalion his regimental aid post was blown in and his staff killed or wounded just before zero hour. He remained at his post working in the open under continuous shell fire over twenty hours; 200 cases passing through his hands, all of whom he most carefully attended. After the greater part of his stretcher-bearers had been killed or wounded, Capt. Rogers went forward himself and brought in a large number of wounded, making numerous journeys until he was exhausted. The gallantry and coolness which he showed in tending the wounded under very heavy shell and machine-gun fire had a very great effect on the morale of the wounded”.
