Captain Thomas Frederick Given

Regiment: Royal Irish Fusiliers
Date published: 22/03/1918
Killed in action: No
Information: Captain Thomas Frederick Given, Royal Irish Fusiliers, gained the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as Second in Command of his battalion. Before the attack he visited every wave and saw that everything was in order. He took forward a party of details from battalion headquarters to reinforce the centre, which had suffered heavy casualties, and was being hard pressed. He remained in command at this point, although twice wounded, and was only persuaded to leave his post after receiving a third wound, which rendered both arms useless.
