Information: Captain J. J. Shannon, R.A.M.C., who was killed in action on November 29th last, was the son of Mr. George Shannon, Cloona House, Ballina, and was educated at the High School, Dumfries, Royal College of Surgeons, and Edinburgh University. On the outbreak of war he joined the O.T.C., and having passed his final medical examination in 1916 was given his commission and became attached to King George's Hospital, Dublin. In May, 1916, he was sent to Alexandria, and was attached to the Berkshire Yeomanry and subsequently to the Honourable Artillery Company. Later he was attached to the Lincolnshire Yeomanry, and was with them when he fell in Palestine whilst gallantly attending the wounded under very heavy fire.
