Information: Captain Robert Sandeman Gaisford, Royal Flying Corps, was the youngest son of Lieut. Colonel D. L. Gaisford, of Dolly's Grove, Dunboyne, County Meath, and grandson of the late General Sir A. Alison, Bart., G.C.B. He was educated at Wellington College, and passed into Woolwich in September, 1913, obtaining his commission in the Royal Field Artillery in September, 1914. He went to France early in the spring of 1915, and was present at most of the principal battles, including Loos and the Somme; in the latter engagement he was hit three times and gassed, but remained on duty all the time. In 1917 he volunteered for the Royal Flying Corps, and after getting his wings returned to France in August last, and saw much service in the air in France and Italy, until he and his observer met their death on the 30th January last.
