Information: Lieutenant Cecil John Kenny, Royal Irish Regiment, who was killed in action on March 24th, 1918, was the third son of Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Kenny, Clyduffe House, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary. He was educated at the Grammar School, Tipperary, and later received an appointment in the Bank of Ireland, Queenstown. He was a keen motorcyclist and on the outbreak of war volunteered for service with the Despatch Corps, and shortly afterwards was gazetted to the Royal Irish Regiment. On completing his training he went to France as Signal Officer to his battalion, and served with them until July, 1916, when he was wounded. On recovery he trained as machine gunner, and served in that capacity in France until shot through the head by a sniper, in his 23rd year, whilst gallantly endeavouring to save his gun. He was a fine sportsman and very popular with his brother officers.
