Information: Lieutenant James Haran Nash, Irish Guards, who was killed in action in France on 27th March. 1918, aged 20 years, was the eldest son of Major Sir Vincent Nash, D.L., and Lady Nash. Shannon View House, Kilmurry, Co. Limerick. He was educated at Downside, where he was a member of the Officers' Training Corps, took a keen interest in all sports, but was especially interested in boating. In the years 1909, 1910 and 1912 he won the school boxing tournament in his division, getting a silver cup each year; he also got bronze and silver medals for rifle shooting in the Downside School Rifle Club, and a silver cup as first prize in the 440 yards race. On 6th April, 1916, he received his commission in the Special Reserve of Officers. Irish Guards. In September, 1916, at his own urgent request, being then only 18 and a half years old, he was sent to France. On the 21st June. 1917, he received his regular commission in the Guards.
