Information: Lieut. Richard Talbot Scallan, R.G.A., is the eldest son of Mr. Francis J. Scallan, Solicitor, of Dublin. He was educated at Belvedere College, Dublin, and the National University of Ireland. He served his apprenticeship to the solicitors profession with his father, and was admitted to the roll of Solicitors on 22nd July, 1915. Very shortly after, he abandoned practice with his father's firm to join the Army, and entered the Dublin University O.T.C., receiving his commission on 5th November, 1916, He went in the beginning of March, 1917, with his Battery to France, where he remained on active service until his death. He was accidentally killed by a passing railway train on 30th May, 1918.
