Information: Major Charles Arthur Tisdall, Irish Guards, of Charlesfort, County Meath, who was killed in action near Villers Cotterets, France, on September the 1st, was gazetted Second Lieutenant (from the Militia) in 1900. He joined the Royal Irish Rifles and was transferred in 1901 to the Irish Guards. He was gazetted Lieutenant in 1901 and Captain in 1909. He saw active service in South Africa, and was present during the operations in the Orange River Colony, January to August, 1901. He received the Queen’s Medal, with two clasps. He was the eldest son of the late Captain John Knox Tisdall, Royal Engineers, and Mrs. Tisdall, and succeeded his grandfather, the late Mr. John Tisdall, of Charlesfort, J .P ., D.L., in 1892. He married, 1904, Gwynneth May, only child of Mr. Charles Adshead, and leaves two daughters. He was in his 40th year.
