Information: Lieutenant John Fraser, Connaught Rangers, who died of wounds received in the Battle of the Aisne, was the eldest son of Mr. J. Fraser, of Riversdale, Boyle, Co. Roscommon, he joined the Connaught Rangers in January, 1905, and after three years' service in India, he was employed with the King's African Rifles (6th Battalion) in the operations in Somaliland from 1908 to 1910, for which he obtained the Medal with clasps. From July, 1909 to January, 1913, he acted as A.D.C. to the Governor and Commander-in-Chief in Uganda. He was a keen soldier, a fine sportsman, and a very successful big game hunter. The wounds which proved fatal were received while he was carrying a wounded brother officer out of the firing line into safety.
