Information: Captain Christopher James Hughes, Connaught Rangers, died from sunstroke on May 13th, 1916, while on active service in Mesopotamia. He was the only surviving son of the late Mr. Christopher Hughes, of Graigue, Co. Kilkenny, and was in his 33rd year. He joined the 3rd Connaught Rangers in 1901 and served through the South African war with the 3rd Highland Light Infantry, and was awarded the medal and clasps. He was subsequently transferred as Captain to the 4th Batt.
