Information: Lieutenant David Matthews, Connaught Rangers, who was killed in action, was the son of Mr. William Matthews, Hardwood, Aughrim, Co. Galway. On the formation of the 16th Division he joined its Cadet Corps and was afterwards gazetted to a commission in the Connaught Rangers. Previous to the outbreak of war he had been on the staff of Messrs. Shaw and Son, Mullingar, but at once offered his services.
