Information: Second Lieutenant Francis William Lynch, who was killed in action on April 26, near Ypres, was the third son of Mr. Henry C. Lynch, of Seaview House, Donnybrook, Ireland, and grandson of the late Mr. Commissioner Lynch. He was born on October 6, 1895, and was educated at the Oratory School, Edgbaston, where he won distinction. In October, 1913, he entered Trinity College, Dublin, and was a member of the Officers' Training Corps. On the outbreak of the war he joined the 4th Batt. Connaught Rangers, and fell at Neuve Chapelle, at the head of his platoon, cheering his men on in an endeavour to capture a German trench north of Ypres.
Additional information: New information has been received from a relative of one of 2/Lieut. Lynch's comrades. Contrary to the information published originally, he was KIA on Mauser Ridge outside Ypres. He was with the 1st Btn Connaught Rangers on that day. He arrived at the front in March 1915 so " lasted" between 3 and 7 weeks.
Connaught Rangers are documented attacking Pilckem Ridge on 26th April 1915. Francis along with many of his regiment are buried at La Brique confirms he was killed there and not a 5/6 weeks earlier at Neuve Chappelle (when he may have yet to have joined the regiment).
