Information: Second Lieutenant Matthew Carruth, Connaught Rangers, who was killed in action on September 9th, 1916, was the fifth son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Carruth, Hightown, Mallusk, Co. Antrim. He was a teacher by profession, and had been Assistant in Londonderry Model School for three years. In December, 1915, he received his commission in the Special Reserve, and was serving with the Connaught Rangers when he fell. His brother, Lieutenant J. Carruth, R.D.F., is serving in France with the 1st Royal Irish Rifles.
