Information: Second Lieutenant Charles Verdon Darnell, Connaught Rangers, attached Royal Flying Corps, was killed in action in France on April 25th, 1917. He was defending our spotting machines from enemy scouts when he was shot, and his machine crashed behind our lines. He and his observer were both killed. He was educated at Arnold House, Llandulas, Cheltenham College, and Sandhurst. On the outbreak of war he joined the Royal Antrim Garrison Artillery in August, 1914, later going to Sandhurst, and passing out into the Connaught Rangers.
